Our parent agency, Mountain Valley Developmental Services, has long been dedicated to promoting dignity, safeguarding rights, and creating meaningful opportunities for individuals with developmental disabilities. Our mission is to empower and support these individuals by enhancing their ability to live, learn, and work in an independent and inclusive environment. We also strive to educate the community about their valuable contributions and unique capabilities.

Since 1988, the Weaving Studio has been an integral part of this mission. It all began when Mountain Valley received an endowment, including three looms, from a local Aspen family to establish a weaving program. Adults receiving services from Mountain Valley who had a passion for weaving began learning the craft. In 1996, the program expanded into a combined retail and weaving studio in downtown Glenwood Springs.

For many participants, weaving has become a meaningful career. Some have been with the studio for over 20 years, while others have found purpose for 7 or more years. Today, the studio continues to uphold its mission by fostering dignity, ensuring rights, and creating opportunities for our weavers. Many now independently set up their own looms, select patterns and colors, and create stunning woven goods that have earned them recognition for their artistry and craftsmanship.
